My Approach

I view therapy as a collaborative, client-led process. The goal is to give you a space where you can safely look at what needs attention, challenge yourself when necessary, and grow on your own terms. Whether you are feel completely lost, or are simply trying to understand a specific part of yourself, my style is active, engaged, and practical.

My Background

Before earning my Masters in Counseling, I earned a PhD in social and personality psychology and worked as a researcher and university professor as well as in organizational learning and development. This background deeply informs how I show up as a therapist.

Because of my time in higher education, I have a firsthand understanding of the unique pressures faced by academics at all career stages—from graduate students to tenured faculty. I frequently work with clients who are navigating and seeking to thrive in academic environments, considering a career shift, or actively transitioning careers.

How My Background Shapes My Practice

My past research focused on people’s self-concept, the importance of belonging, and the ways in which social structures shape our individual, daily experiences. Today, I bring that lens directly to my clinical work.

Our intersecting identities—such as gender, race, sexuality, social class, and ability—fundamentally shape how we navigate the world and how we define what wellness looks like. I pay close attention to these dynamics to ensure you feel genuinely seen and respected in the fullness of who you are. My focus is on helping you clarify your values, find meaning, and build a real sense of purpose and belonging.

This isn’t just professional interest—it’s personal, too. I bring curiosity, humility, and lived awareness of how class, culture, and identity shape a life. I’m queer, a parent, an immigrant who came to the U.S. as a kid. I carry a felt sense of moving between different worlds. I don’t expect to share every part of your identity to understand you and I don’t assume that even if we share an identity that our experiences of it will be the same.
